our body brushing guide

Our body brushing guide explains the benefits of dry brushing, how to do it correctly and which areas you should avoid during the process.

WHAT IS BODY BRUSHING?

Body brushing is a daily body massage with a dry, stiff-bristled brush. The process of dry brushing can help get rid of dry skin, increase circulation, help digestion and improve the appearance of cellulite.

THE BENEFITS OF BODY BRUSHING:

  • Exfoliates the skin. Dry brushing helps to unclog the pores, increase blood circulation and prompt lymph flow/drainage. All of this in turn helps the body to sweat more easily and eliminate toxins from your body.
  • Helps you feel invigorated. The dry brushing stimulates your nervous system and ‘wakes-up’ your body.
  • Removes dead skin. Body brushing removes dead skin making it smoother and softer and brighter in appearance.

The best type of brush to use for body brushing is a dry, natural stiff-bristled bath or shower brush, these can come with/without a long handle. The bristles must be firm so that you can get the full effect and benefits of body brushing.

If during or after body brushing you notice redness, swelling or inflammation then stop right away. Also, you should try to avoid brushing warts, moles or raised bumps on your skin.

Our body brushing guide, would also recommend to avoid using a dry brush on your face. The skin on your face is more sensitive than the rest of your body. Instead, we would advise using a gentle exfoliator on your face.

WHEN AND HOW SHOULD I BRUSH?

We advise the best time to dry brush is just before your shower. This will mean that any dead skin cells will be washed off in the shower.

  • You should start body brushing from the feet or ankles and work your way up.
  • The brushing should be in upward, long, strokes on your body and all you need is a couple of overlapping strokes per area.
  • Never brush in a circular motion.
  • We find it is better to reduce the pressure of the stokes in sensitive areas such as your abdomen, breasts and neck.
  • Brush once a day and shower afterwards.

Our Body brushing guide is to brush everyday to help prepare your skin before any spray tans that you might have booked in.
